No. 1 University of Colorado men’s lacrosse team blew out No. 13 Sonoma State by a score of 15-4 on Sunday in a home game at Kittredge Field.
The game started off close when the Buffs had only a two-point lead (3-1) at the end of the first quarter. When they came back on the field in the second quarter, the Buffaloes fought hard, setting the tone by winning the first face off of the quarter. Within the first twenty seconds junior attack man John Clayton had his first goal of the game.
The Seawolves had a hard time keeping the ball in their possession throughout the second quarter with seven turnovers of the ball.
The Buffs defense played well keeping the Seawolves to only one-point throughout the entire first half. The half ended with the Buffaloes leading the Seawolves 7-1.
While the Seawolves eventually gained another goal early in the second half, the Buffs offense played well scoring five goals in the third quarter.
Sophomore attackman Hart Wise scored two goals back to back for CU within one minute of each other in the sixth minute of the third quarter. The Buffs led 10-2 causing the Seawolves to take their first timeout of the quarter.
The Seawolves started to score in the fourth quarter, but two goals late in the game weren’t enough.
With their hard-fought 15-4 win on Sunday, the Buffaloes remain undefeated with eight wins to begin the season.
No. 1 Colorado plays No. 4 Grand Canyon University at home Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kittredge Field.
