The University of Colorado women’s lacrosse team won their third home game against the Presbyterian College Blue Hose 19-0 on Monday at Kittredge Field.
At halftime the score was 12-0, leaving the Blue Hose scoreless in the first half. Both the Buffs offense and defense played hard to build a 12-point lead.
Within the first minutes, freshman midfielder Darby Kiernan made the first goal of the game for CU. Three minutes later the Buffs led 3-0, causing the Blue Hose to take an early first timeout.
Soon after their timeout, the Buffs gained a 4-0 lead. The Blue Hose had a few chances to score halfway through the first half, but failed to capitalize. This trend continued throughout the rest of the game for Presbyterian, who took only five shots during the game.
By the end of the first half, five players on CU had scored goals making the score 12-0. Sophomore midfielder Johnna Fusco had 3 goals, despite getting her third yellow card of the season.
“I was pretty frustrated but I kept my composure and ran off the field,” Fusco said. “I had to get back out there and not let it affect the rest of our game.”
The Buffs momentum continued throughout the second half. Within the first four minutes of the half the Buffs scored five goals leading the Blue Hose 17-0. Freshman attack Taylor Oliver had two goals almost within one minute of each other, her first goals as a Colorado Buffalo.
The Buffs left the Blue Hose scoreless by the end of the game beating them 19-0.
“I don’t pay too much attention to the scoreboard honestly,” Colroado head coach Ann Elliot said. “I pay more attention to how our kids are playing and their work ethic and effort out there. No matter the score you have to come in with a good attitude.”
The Buffs had 29 shot attempts throughout the game, whereas the Blue Hose had only five. Despite the Buffs having 14 turnovers and the Blue Hose having 17 turnovers, the Buffs offense and defense fought hard for the win.
The Buffs go to Chicago this Saturday to play Northwestern University at 11 am.
