A man suspected of shoplifting from the CU bookstore was tased by campus police Monday.
According to a release from CUPD, 25-year-old Jermaine Sillemon had become hostile after being confronted by CU bookstore loss prevention personnel while allegedly attempting to walk out of the bookstore with a hoodie he had not paid for.
CUPD officers arrived on the scene and Sillemon charged them. After repeatedly warning Sillemon, officers tased him, according to the release.
After being tased, Sillemon complained of being short of breath, and was transported from the UMC by ambulance.
Upon release from the hospital, Sillemon was booked into Boulder County jail on charges of felony menacing, resisting arrest, petty theft and providing false identification to a police officer, according to the release.
Sillemon is not affiliated with the university, according to CUPD Chief Melissa Zak.
