The Corner, named for its location on The Hill at 13th Street and College, has never struggled since it opened its doors in late 2012 — their healthy salad options and “Corner Bowls” are enough for lines to reach the door.
But after receiving a liquor license in the spring, business has only expanded. The restaurant has updated their drink menu, offering four signature cocktails, eight types of beer, red and white house wine and a unique option that allows customers to choose from five liquors and eight mixers to create their own drink.
Drinks range in price from $3-$7. During happy hour (3-6 p.m.) all cocktails drop down to $4, and draft beers are only $3.50.
Although the happy hour deals fit a college student budget, supervisor Katie Monitto said that happy hour is not necessarily the restaurant’s busiest time.
“We don’t always get a big crowd in for happy hour, but when there’s events around here we definitely increase in liquor sales,” Monitto said. “When they had the block party it increased, and last Saturday when the game was going on we sold a lot of drinks.”
They also sell Avery and Upslope beer, both brewed right here in Boulder. Upslope’s draught Brown ale and canned craft lager are The Corner’s most popular beers.
When it comes to mixed drinks and cocktails, a Bloody Mary is the most demanded. The Bloody Mary mix is house-made, and the drink is most popular during brunch hours on the weekend.
Jamie Fisher, a senior sociology major at CU and a fan of The Corner’s brunch, said the restaurant’s outdoor seating option is likely what encourages many to choose The Corner over other places on The Hill.
“I like stopping there because it’s nice and convenient and right on the hill,” Fisher said. “You can just stop there on the way home from classes and sit outside.”
