The CUSG Legislative Council kicked off its 81st legislative session Thursday, ratifying a number of board positions.
The council unanimously voted to ratify members of the Student Group Funding Board, Distinguished Speakers Board and Recreation Board.
Junior history major Jesse Van Divier, junior finance major Haley Midzor and engineering master’s student Vigneshwaran Selvaraju were ratified as members of the Student Group Funding Board.
“We need to make sure our expectations for student groups are very well communicated,” said Van Divier, who also stressed the need to ensure that the groups are fiscally responsible and abide by the rules.
Senior astronomy major Ryan Breuer, senior economics major Liza Romanov and sophomore marketing major Mark Haselmaier were ratified as officers of the Distinguished Speakers Board.
The ratification included a discussion of who the DSB would like to bring to campus this year, regardless of price. Candidates included Tina Fey, Mindy Kaling, Lena Dunham and Peter Dinklage.
Senior civil engineering major Ellesse Spaeth became the chair of the Rec Board and junior management major Alec Parkin became the vice chair.
Spaeth and Parkin stressed that they felt the role of the Rec Board was to represent the best interest of the student body while maintaining a positive relationship with the staff of the rec center.
The council also passed a bill supporting Boulder City Ballot Measure 2A, which raises Boulder’s sales tax by .3 percent in order to fund various municipal projects, including a better lighting system on the hill.
CUSG’s legislative council meetings are open to the public and take place at 7 p.m. every Thursday in UMC 247.
