University of Colorado junior point guard Spencer Dinwiddie said he will declare for the NBA Draft in a press conference Thursday, April 24.
Dinwiddie, who tore his ACL Jan. 17, had previously said he would forego his senior season at CU if he received a first-round draft grade. He said today that he “got a lot of intrigue from the league” and that he is a “first-round talent”.
Dinwiddie was a three-year starter for the Buffs. He averaged 13 points, 2.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game during his career, on 42/38/83 percent shooting. He finished his career with a 20.9 PER.
Both Dinwiddie and head basketball coach Tad Boyle are optimistic about CU’s future. Dinwiddie says the Buffs will make the NCAA Tournament again next year, and Boyle said “the team won’t take any steps back.”
Dinwiddie is expected to fall in the draft because of his knee injury.
“Whoever gets him will get a hell of a player, and they’ll get him at bargain price,” Boyle said.
