Mike Gordon, the celebrated Phish bassist, will play a sold-out show at the Boulder Theater Friday, March 14 at 8:30 p.m.
Fresh off his fourth solo studio album, “Overstep,” Gordon will be playing with guitarist Scott Murawski, drummer Todd Isler, percussionist Craig Myers and keyboardist Tom Cleary.
Gordon helped form the prominent improvisational band Phish in 1983, when he met Trey Anastasio, Jeff Holdsworth and Jon Fishman at the University of Vermont. Since then, Phish has attracted a wide following. Many fans even travel with the band for the entirety of its tours.
Gordon played one of the tracks on “Overstep,” “Say Something,” a few times during Phish’s 25-show 2013 summer tour.
His musical prowess is often overshadowed by Phish bandmate Paige McConnell’s masterful key playing and frontman Trey Anastasio on the guitar. But with Gordon’s name atop the bill Friday, the spotlight should be all his. His tight slaps and picking of his five-string, glow-in-the-dark bass will be showcased front and center, allowing fans to witness a side of Gordon not often seen when he takes the stage with Phish.
Doors at the Boulder Theater open at 7:30 p.m.
