The Travelin’ McCourys, featuring Bill Nershi of String Cheese Incident, will play The Fox Theatre Wednesday, March 12 at 8:30 p.m.
The bluegrass group possesses a tight, cohesive sound that only comes with playing music together for over 20 years. The band includes Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, Rob McCoury on banjo, Jason Carter on fiddle and Alan Bartram on bass. Brothers Ronnie and Rob are the sons of bluegrass virtuoso Del McCoury.
While focused mostly on traditional bluegrass music, The Travelin’ McCourys are well suited to exploring different genres when joined by different players. With Bill Nershi joining the group on Wednesday, fans can expect the String Cheese Incident guitarist to add his own take to the McCourys’ sound. Nershi has played a unique brand of bluegrass that implements aspects of electronica, funk and reggae with The String Cheese Incident since the band’s inception in 1993 and is heralded as one of the most prominent guitarists in the jam scene.
With a blend of genres to be represented on one stage, The Travelin’ McCourys promises a raucous, foot-stomping shindig. Newgrass band Pert Near Sandstone will be opening the show, set to hit the stage at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 (plus $2 for under 21) and can be purchased here.
