Ohio-born band Papadosio is bringing their psychedelic sounds to Boulder this weekend.
In an interview with the CUI, drummer Mike Healy described the group as a “psychedelic rock and roll band” with electric, hip-hop and even folk influences. Healy attributes the band’s mix of styles to the diverse musical upbringings of the members.
Their sounds are inspired by a variety of other musicians, from Tool to Michael Jackson to Bob Marley. “One of the things that made us fall in love with each other in the beginning was seeing what music people had in their CD case,” Healy said.
In regards to their unique name, Healy said that it was based on a friend’s suggestion of the name, “Captain Papadosio and the Psychonauts.” It has no specific meaning, but its distinction and lack of a definition stood out to the band.
Papadosio improvs between songs to keep shows fresh and new, priding themselves on never doing the same gig twice. Between LED walls and light shows, Healy promises “a wild ride, up and down and all around.”
Doors open at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at the Fox Theater. Ticket prices start at $14.
