The No. 12 Colorado Buffaloes cruised to an easy victory against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, Sunday at the Coors Events Center in Boulder, Colo.
The Buffs jumped out to a large lead early, but Southern Utah came back late to close the gap. With 8:08 to go in the game, the Thunderbirds cut the Buffs’ lead to two points. Colorado was about to pull away with a 19-2 run to take a 19 point lead with 1:24 to go in the game.
Arielle Roberson led the Buffs with 18 points, but Ashley Wilson was the story of the game. Wilson had an astounding statline of 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in 21 minutes of action.
Wilson recently came back from a shoulder injury, but it didn’t seem to bother her much.
“She’s such a tough kid,” Colorado head coach Linda Lappe said. “She’s back and doing what she can. It seemed like everytime we needed something, she provided it. She was everywhere tonight. She did so much to help our overall demeanor on the court.”
Up next, the 12th-ranked Buffs, 10-1, start conference play against USC, next Friday in Los Angeles.
“Ready or not, here it comes,” Lappe said, referring to conference play. “We’re ready for it. Our players are excited to start conference play. Every game really really matters and you’re playing for something.”
