On a snowy night in Boulder, Colo., the University of Colorado came out on top against the University of Georgia, 84-70 at the Coors Events Center.
The Buffs jumped out to an early lead, leading by as many as 18 in the first half, and held onto it the rest of the way. For the majority of the game, CU maintained a double-digit lead.
Colorado junior guard Askia Booker led all scorers with 19 points. Four other Buffs were in double digits for scoring, and Josh Scott had another double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Almost a third of CU’s points came from the free throw line, with the Buffs shooting a perfect 26 of 26 from the charity stripe. That the most made free throws without a miss in the Pac-12 since Washington State went 28 of 28 from the line in 2009 against Oregon. The NCAA record is 34 free throw attempts without a miss, with three teams reaching that mark: UC Irvine in February of 1981, Samford in December of 1990 and Oklahoma in March of 2013.
This game wraps up the Buffs’ non-conference schedule, with Pac-12 conference play set to begin next Thursday against Oregon State in Boulder. Colorado finished with an 11-2 record.
“With the strength of schedule that we played, I’m really pleased with it,” Colorado head coach Tad Boyle said, referring to CU’s non-conference record. “We want to be 13-0, but the teams we lost to are good top-25 quality teams. We’ve had some really good wins and we haven’t had any bad losses. That’s the key for non-conference: You want the non conference schedule to prepare you for conference play.”
