University of Colorado Boulder has at least 34 competitive club sports teams, with varying support from the CU Independent sports section.

I think one of our most impressive club teams would have to be Colorado Crew, our rowing team. These athletes are up at 5 a.m. every morning and on the water at the Boulder Reservoir by 6 a.m. for practice. The thought of waking up that early is frightening to most college students, let alone the even more traumatic thought of working out then. The crew team just went to Tennessee for a meet where the women’s and men’s novice teams placed first.

The best club sport at CU, in my opinion, is the Colorado Rugby Football Club, but I might be biased. The team has games throughout the year on Saturdays and it is a great atmosphere even if you don’t know the game. The team is having a lot of success this year as well. They beat Wisconsin in the play-in game of the playoffs and now face St. Mary’s in the Elite Eight. If they win that game, they will have a home game for the chance to go to the national championship. Editor’s note: Scott “might be biased” because he is on the team.

When it comes to club sports, my favorite team has to be the Triathalon Team. Not only have they won the last four national championships, but they’ve won 14 overall since 1994. The athletes give their all year-round to conditioning and training for competitions. I really respect that dedication.

One club sport to keep an eye on as the season winds down is the Men’s Lacrosse Club. After wrapping up the regular season with a record of 14-1, the Buffs will take on Brigham Young University in the regional playoffs. All season long, Colorado has been ranked in the top ten lacrosse teams and the men are looking to make moves in the post-season. Be sure to tune in to the regional playoffs which will be played May 3-4 in Grand Junction, Colo.
