With the Super Bowl upon us this week, there’s a few questions that may be rambling in every student’s head: What am I going eat? What am I going to drink? And is Beyoncé going to lip synch?
While the CUI cannot answer all of these questions, we are here to lend a hand when it comes to overindulgence, games and dancing.
EAT
On the overindulgence front, there are drinks and food that must be consumed. Some of us may have a Pinterest board addressing this issue, but for those of us who are not as prepared, or have been too busy pinning animals, here’s a simple Super Bowl chili.
Super Bowl Chili
Serves 10 to 12
Ingredients:
2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 cans (15 oz each) spicy chili beans, undrained
1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, undrained
1 can (15 oz) white beans, drained and rinsed
2 cans (14.5 oz each) chunky tomatoes, undrained
4 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Put all the ingredients in a slow cooker; then blend three to four cups of the chili in a blender. The blending will make the chili thicker and less watery, so blend more if you like your chili thicker. After you’ve blended, pour the mixture into the cooker, and allow the chili to cook for five to six hours on low.
DRINK & WATCH
Now, if you’re not eating at home or having people over, you may be looking for a place to go drink and consume delicious appetizers. Sadly, the Lazy Dog will not be serving alcohol on Super Bowl Sunday due to the loss of its liquor license until Feb. 9, so here are a few other options:
- Harpo’s Sports Grill
Located on Arapahoe by 29th Street Mall, this bar doesn’t get as much foot traffic since it’s not near Pearl Street, but it has good deals and that “sports bar” vibe that you can’t fake. - Baker St. Pub & Grill
This restaurant has a younger crowd than Harpo’s and is located a few blocks away on 28th Street near The Buff. This bar has a more European feel and a wide range of spirits for those of age. - Geisty’s Dogg House
This bar has a younger crowd and is located right on the Hill for those who may not want to travel far. The restaurant is not that big, so if you want some breathing room, I would recommend going early.
TOUCH DOWN!
With eating and drinking covered, the next thing to prepare for the Super Bowl is how to properly celebrate a touch down. Some may celebrate Gangnam Style and others with the dougie. We should learn from a pro, Kelly Washington, and do “the squirrel.”
GLOAT
Now, being extra prepared for the Super Bowl means making your friends who chose the wrong team do some ridiculous things. This may be done with 241543903, a simple photo trend and meme taking over Google Images that involves people putting their heads in freezers, but try to spice it up with your own twist.
Have a happy Super Bowl!
