Men’s basketball gets bid to NCAA tournament
The Colorado basketball team beat Arizona University 53-51 in the Pac-12 Conference Tournament in Los Angeles.
The team was placed as a No. 11 seed in the South Region of 2012 March Madness. CU is set to play No. 6-seeded University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
UNLV comes into the dance from the Mountain West Conference with a 26-8 overall record. The game is on Thursday, March 15 in Albuquerque, N.M. If the Buffs win, they will play the winner of the No. 3 seed Baylor University or No. 14 South Dakota State game next Saturday.
It is the first appearance in the tournament for the Buffs since 2003, and only the third since 1970.

Women’s tennis loses to No. 5 Stanford and No. 10 California
The CU women’s tennis team got swept this past weekend by two of the best teams in the country, losing to both the University of California and Stanford University, 7-0.
Even though the Buffs didn’t win a match this weekend, the competition was good for the team.
“I’m proud of the team and how we competed,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said to the CU Sports Information Department. “The more opportunities we have against this quality of a team, the more we will be able to improve and win at this level.”

CU ski team finishes third at NCAA National Championships
In pursuit of its 19th national championship, the CU ski team made a late charge but ended up falling short.
The Buffs finished in third, only one point behind second-place University of Utah but 160 points behind the new national champion, the University of Vermont.
The Buffs were in fourth place going into Saturday’s final events but pushed ahead of Dartmouth University.
On Thursday, CU freshman Adam Zika cruised to victory in the men’s giant slalom. His 1.07-second winning margin was the largest in an NCAA giant slalom since 1980. Zika became CU’s first national champion in the giant slalom since the late Bryan Sax won in 1995. Zika also became the fourth Buffalo male alpine skier in CU history to win his first NCAA race.
Freshman Rune Oedegaard had Colorado’s top finish in both Wednesday’s freestyle and Friday’s classical events (fifth and seventh, respectively). Senior Vegard Kjoelhamar completed his four-year Buff career with a 21st place finish in the classical event on Friday.
On Saturday, senior Erika Ghent led the CU women in the alpine events, garnering first-team All-America honors with a third-place finish in the slalom.
The Buffs will look to be national champions once again in 2013. They will return eight skiers who participated in this year’s national championship and continue to be one of the powerhouses of college skiing.
