In Lincoln, Neb., the CU women’s tennis team had its ups and downs.
The Buffs won on Saturday against the University of St. Louis, but fell on Sunday in a shutout loss to the University of Nebraska.
In their first ever match against the St. Louis Billikens, the Buffs performed well and earned a 6-1 win. That taste of victory would not last long, though.
Including Saturday’s win over St. Louis, the Buffs had won four out of their last five going into Sunday’s match. Sunday was a different story, however, as the Buffs were overrun by No. 36 Nebraska, 7-0.
Freshman Julyette Steur was the only Buff to win a set on Sunday, though she ultimately lost to the Cornhuskers’ Stefanie Weinstein 2-6, 6-3, 1-0(8).
The huskers improved to 12-1 on the season as the Buffs fell to 6-4. Colorado hasn’t beaten Nebraska since 2008, as the Cornhuskers have won the last six meetings. In the all-time series, the Buffs’ former Big 12 rival leads 19-18.
Sunday’s match marked only the third time all season that the Buffs have failed to win any of the doubles matches. Colorado won all three on Saturday against St. Louis.
The Buffs return home this week to play No. 7 California on Friday and No. 11 Stanford on Sunday.
