Jake Timmons led the Buffs’ field events team Friday night at the Colorado School of Mines Twilight Open, jumping his way to a first place finish in the high jump.
Timmons’ height of 6 feet, 7 inches brought him into a four way tie for first with two other athletes from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and the Colorado School of Mines.
CU’s Kelsey English also showed the jumpers’ strength. She came in third place with a jump of 5 feet, 7 inches. Gwen Ricco wasn’t able to clear her opening height in the high jump, but was able to clear the boards in the long jump and finished eighth place with a leap of 15 feet, 11.75 inches.
The jumpers weren’t the only field events in action. The women shot putters also showed their depth, putting two athletes in the top five. They were led by freshman Margaux Krahe who threw 39 feet, 7.75 inches, earning her second place. Not far behind was Kajsa Bank, a sophomore from Louisville, throwing for a fifth-place finish.
Next weekend both track and field athletes will be in action in their first ever Pac-12 conference meet in Seattle.
