A teenage girl turned herself in yesterday to authorities for a hit-and-run accident that hospitalized a female CU student pedestrian last month.
The 17-year-old female turned herself in to the Boulder County Juvenile Detention Center yesterday after a warrant was issued for her arrest on charges of a hit-and-run accident that occurred Jan. 4 around 5:25 p.m., according to a Boulder Police Department press release.
Mary Wakeman-Linn, a 23-year-old economics major, was seriously injured by a vehicle that struck her as she was crossing a pedestrian crosswalk on Baseline near Canyon Creek Drive. The car that struck Wakeman-Linn did not stop for her while she was using the crosswalk, according to the press release.
The teenage suspect cannot be identified by police because she is a minor, although police have confirmed that she is a resident of Boulder County. She was identified as a person of interest early on in the case, and after further investigation, police have gathered enough evidence to obtain a warrant for her arrest.
According to the press release, the suspect faces seven charges, two of which are felonies: failure to remain at the scene after an accident involving serious bodily injury, and vehicular assault. Other charges include failure to notify police of an accident, driving a motor vehicle when license is under restraint, driving an unsafe motor vehicle, overtaking a vehicle when stopped for pedestrian in a marked crosswalk, and failure to yield right-of-way to a pedestrian using a crosswalk.
