A CU student working as a custodian at the Coors Events Center was arrested Saturday on two felony charges of burglary and theft.
William Wallace Berryman, a20-year-old sophomore marketing major, took iPhones belonging to referees during the Oregon-Colorado basketball game last week, said Ryan Huff, the communications manager for the CU Police Department.
On Thursday, two referees reported stolen iPhones and cash at some point during the game, Huff said. CUPD found video surveillance that showed [Berryman] entering the locker room area.
Berryman was able to enter the locker rooms of the referees by wearing a Pac-12 shirt that allowed him access into secure areas of the arena, Huff said.
CUPD launched an investigation that led to Berrymans arrest on Saturday.
After questioning Berryman, he admitted to stealing the phones, Huff said. His apartment was searched and the iPhones were found.
Police never found the missing cash; Berryman denied taking anything else besides the iPhones. He was charged with second-degree burglary and theft of more than $1,000 dollars.
Berryman has been released from the Boulder County jail on bond.
