The Boulder Police Department has discovered that last weekend’s assault on the Hill did not actually occur.
A campus-wide email was sent out on Sunday detailing the supposed attack, during which a 20-year-old woman, who has now been identified as Nina Fiorillo, claimed to have been engaged in a struggle with a suspect described as a black male, approximately 6-feet tall and 200 pounds.
Fiorillo told police that she was alone on University Avenue just after midnight when she was assaulted, but was able to injure the man and get away.
“Detectives have determined that the report was false,” said Kim Kobel, a spokesperson for the Boulder police. Kobel confirmed that Fiorillo is a CU student.
“While being interviewed for further details, Fiorillo admitted to detectives that she made up the story,” according to a BPD press release.
Fiorillo has been ticketed with False Reporting to Authorities, a Class 3 misdemeanor charge, possibly resulting in a fine up to $750 and a maximum six months of jail time.
