Name: Chiemi Hodota
Age: 21
Major: English
Hometown: Ibaraki, Japan
At 21-years-old, Chiemi Hodota is way ahead of her peers. Rather than wear a pair of ripped jeans and a sweatshirt the size of a sleeping bag, Hodota can be seen on campus dressed in tailored pieces and thoughtful accessories.
For instance, during her early French class one Tuesday morning, Hodota donned a pair of shorts that she updated to fit the season by adding tights and a pair of ladylike, yet earthy ankle boots.
Although her wardrobe matches the season in color and is composed of weather-appropriate material, Chiemi cannot help but miss the easy, breezy dresses of spring.
Hodota’s preference for relaxed dresses became even more understandable after she said her style icon is Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift and Hodota have something else in common—their luscious locks. The
Ibaraki native rocks loose curls on a regular basis, just like Swift.
In terms of American standards there is no doubt that Hodota has style, but curiosity led to questioning what style is like in her native Japan and how it differs from her style at CU.
“Here in Boulder, simple tee shirts and jeans are the norm, but in Japan there always has to be a design,” Hodota said.
She added that shirts with checkered or floral patterns are very popular in her homeland.
After seeing some of Hodota’s outfits, it seems that she has adopted the best styles from both worlds.
