The CU tennis team is working to recover after facing a grueling weekend marathon.
Sophomores Kristina Schleich and Carla Manzi Tenorio fell in the finals of the University of Colorado Invitational at the South Campus courts. On Saturday, Schleich and Carla Manzi Tenorio won their morning doubles semifinal. The pair beat Arkansas’ Stephanie Roy and Emily Carbone 8-5.
Later in the day, Schleich played in two back-to-back three-set singles matches. In both her singles matches, Schleich rallied back from a set down in each match to claim victory. She defeated two opponents from Wyoming, Jessica Parizher 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-3, and Simona Synkova 0-6, 6-3, 7-6(3).

Sunday was a much more difficult day for the Buffs. Early in the day, Schleich and Manzi Tenorio fell 8-5 to Arkansas’ Kate Lukomskaya and Claudine Paulson. This loss was Manzi Tenorio’s first out of her eight doubles matches this season.
Schleich later suffered a sunstroke in the first set of the Gold Singles Final. She defaulted her match to DU’s Madeleine Saari-Byström, after trailing 4-1.
“Overall it was a great tournament with a lot of great showings,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally in a press release. “I think our players continued to progress and we’re seeing improvement with everyone.”
