The University of Colorado tennis team hit their way through the Kansas Invitational, but got almost no love on the final day.
The Buffs lost four singles matches in a Pac-12 preview against Washington State, including three finals on Sunday.
“This weekend was a good first outing for us and to have the opportunity to see everyone compete,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said in a press release. “Everyone is happy with where we are but definitely not content or satisfied. We will continue to work hard on and off the court and look forward to competing in our home tournament next weekend.”
Sophomores Kristina Schleich, Winde Janssens and Carla Manzi Tenorio were each swept in their respective matches against WSU.
Redshirt-sophomore Erin Sanders also lost her consolation match 6-3, 6-0.
The invitational wasn’t all losses for the Buffs. On the final day, freshman Ashley Tiefel beat South Dakota’s Nina Barudciz in the Singles F bracket consolation round.
CU’s doubles teams fared much better in their finals on Saturday.
Jansenns and Manzi Tenorio defeated Kentucky’s pair of Fox and Testerman en route to the Doubles A Bracket title. In the final, the Buffs beat Kansas’s Pezzotti/Los.
CU returns to Boulder to host Arkansas, Denver and Wyoming in the Colorado Invitational from Sept. 23 to 25.
