The “What’s up?” weekly

If you’re depressed about having to stay inside and work on school stuff during these beautiful, spring Colorado days, you’re not alone. 

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to divert your attention from getting too depressed: Think about how close we are to summer! And, we’re in Boulder, which means there’s always plenty going on. Go ahead, save your sanity now and do something suggested below!

Monday
Italian Film Festival
Come spend an evening in Italy! Enjoy the local premiers of five recent, critically acclaimed Italian films at the 2011 Italian Film Festival USA from April 18-22. All films, free and shown with English subtitles, in Eaton Humanities, Room 250 at 6 p.m.

Trivia night at Conor O’Neill’s
Think you’re a trivia warlock? Maybe. Do you like going out on a Monday? Duh. Conor’s is the place! Test your knowledge and have their $7.99 fish and chips and beer deal while you’re at it! The fun starts at 9 p.m. and you better not pick a lame team name!

Tuesday
The Supervillans with Tatanka and Bop Skizzum at the Fox
This show is sure to be epic. Orlando Reggae masters, The Supervillans headline the show which opens up with Denver-based Tatanka and Bop Skizzum. There’s going to be a lot of funk, soul, reggae and dancin’ going on at this show! Get your tickets, they’re going fast! Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door with an extra $2 charge if you’re under 21.

Program Council presents: No Joy at Club 156
We’re sure that even though the band’s name is “No Joy,” you’ll find some anyways. These female-fronted indie rockers bring a different sound and do it their own way. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door.

Wednesday
Free Asian cooking class at Dennis Small Cultural Center
Join the Dennis Small Cultural Center and Pi Delta Psi Asian Fraternity and learn how to make Filipino Egg Rolls in recognition of Asian American Heritage Month. This class is free and open to the public but space is limited, so an RSVP is required: dscc@colorado.edu.

Thursday
The Boulder Theater presents: “The Upsetter: The Life and Music of Lee Scratch Perry.”
“The Upsetter” tells the fascinating story of Lee “Scratch” Perry, a visionary musician and artist from poor rural Jamaica who journeyed to the big city in the late 1950’s with dreams of making it in the burgeoning record industry. Tickets are $12 and can be bought here.

Friday
Program Council presents: GLOWfest at Balch Fieldhouse
Ok, just look at this lineup: Savoy, Crystal Castles, Sorry for Partying, FRESH2DEATH, THiCK CHiCK and Josh McAdoo. Sounds good, doesn’t it? They’ll all play at the Balch Field House for GLOWfest and you don’t wanna miss it. Tickets are $25 for students pre-sale and $40 day of show. A limited number of VIP tickets will be sold for $60 and will include VIP area access, no waiting in line and sweet sunglasses. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m.

If you’d like a cheaper option on Friday night, check out “The Social Network.” It’s the story of Mark Zuckerburg, aka Facebook Founder, and tells everything behind the creation of Facebook. It’s free, so enjoy. It starts at 9 p.m.
