A rocky week haunted the Buffs mens basketball team after a loss on the road and a win at home.
One team member was a winner, regardless. Senior guard Levi Knutson was one of five basketball players chosen for the District 7 CoSIDA Academic All-American team on Thursday.
Players from universities including Denver, Northern Colorado, Missouri State and Kansas were also honored.
Even in the group of five, Knutson still managed to impress.
The Littleton, Colo. native posted the highest overall GPA with a 3.92. A business administration major with an emphasis in finance, Knutson is recording one of the best seasons of his career.
He leads the Buffs with 3-pointers made, sinking in 47 on the season. He twice posted an immaculate 4.0 average as a Buff, once in fall 2009 and spring 2009.
Knutson and the rest of the CU basketball troupe will be in action on Wednesday against ranked foes Texas A & M at the Coors Events Center at 7 p.m.
Ski team finishes fourth
Colorado settled for fourth place at the New Mexico Invitational without their head coach and seven of their top skiers on Saturday.
Head coach Richard Rokos is in Erzurum, Turkey with seven of his top athletes competing in the World University Games.
Skiing down their local slopes, the New Mexico Lobos finished on top, 50 points ahead of second place Utah. The Lobos racked up 881 points.
Freshman Andreas Haug took top honors in the mens slalom with a two-run time of 1:35:16. It was the Buffs’ second slalom win of the season after senior Gabriel Rivas won the same event at Utah.
Hempen welcomes four recruits
Womens soccer head coach Bill Hempen announced four student-athletes to his roster on National Letter of Intent Day on Wednesday.
Three players signed letters of intent while one is expected as a walk-on.
All these young ladies are expected to have an immediate impact on next fall’s team, Hempen said in a news release.
The Buffs recruits include Rebecca Boggs, a midfielder/forward from Eagle River, Alaska; midfielder/forward Carly Bolyard from Louisville, Colo.; Darcy Jerman, a midfielder from Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Bianca Jones, a defender midfielder from Aurora, Colo.
Morris records 3rd fastest 200-meter run in school history
Sophomore Joe Morris placed in second in the 200-meter dash at Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
His time of 21.29 seconds in the event was also good enough for a third place finish in the Colorado indoor track and field record books for the 200-meter dash.
Morris was instrumental in the Buffs first place 4×400 meter relay performance alongside sophomore Kyle MacIntosh, senior Matthew McCathran and freshman Blake Reimer.
Indoor track and field will look to build on their seasons momentum at the Air Force Collegiate Invitational at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
