And by little, it’s by the bare minimum.
On Wednesday’s National Letter of Intent Day, CU football head coach Jon Embree announced 18 new Buffs, all recruits of the 2011 class, at a conference in the Dal Ward Athletic Center.
Number 19 came about his decision some three hours later, adding one additional player to bring the total one short of 20. The recruits replenish 18 lettermen lost in the previous season.
Among the recruits are 18 high school players and one junior college transfer.
Eight players were added on offense and defensive teams in addition to one specialist and one athlete whose position is yet to be determined.
Eight players hail from the Golden State of California, three from the sunny shores of Hawaii and two from Texas. Arizona, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington, D.C. all had one student commit to CU.
The trio from Hawaii are among the three best players in the state, according to some online recruiting sites.
For the second year in a row, the Buffs were only able to attract two home-grown talents. But that may change on Thursday.
One of the top recruits in the state, linebacker Leilon Willingham, decided to delay his commitment announcement after Mullen, the high school he attends, was closed due to the weather on Wednesday.
He will announce his decision on Thursday.
Willingham is said to have CU among his top choices. Colorado will compete with the likes of the University of Central Florida and Michigan for the talented linebacker.
