As CU men’s golf team will tell you, its not how you start, but how you finish.
CU’s men’s golf team sits tied for 10th�Wednesday after the first day of the 21st annual Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
The team was 6-over par through six holes, but managed to get things back under control. Playing 9-under for the rest of the day, the Buffs finished with a 3-under 285.
Sophomore Johnny Widmer led the Buffs with a 3-under 69, the best score of his collegiate career. He sank 4 birdies, and only one bogey.
Senior Luke Symons shot 71 for the day. After shooting two bogeys on his first two holes, he rallied back to end the day with four birdies and 11 pars.
At an even par 72 was sophomore Derek Fribbs, with three birdies, 12 pars and three bogeys.
Junior Kevin Kring was 1-over on the day, after coming back from being 3-over after six holes.
Rounding out the Colorado’s scorers was junior Sebastian Heisele, who ended his day with a 4-over 76.
The Buffs will be back in action Thursday, and will finish the 54-hole tournament Friday.
