Boulder Police are currently investigating a second-degree assault, said Boulder Police Public Information Officer Sarah Huntley.
“We are still trying to sift through conflicting accounts,” Huntley said.
Near 1:30 a.m. on Saturday at an apartment on the 1300 block of College Avenue, a 20-year-old male suspect punched a 19-year-old male victim in the face after asking him to leave, Huntley said.
“The victim and his friend went to the party…and they were asked to leave, it’s not entirely clear why,” Huntley said. “While they were leaving the party they were on the stairwell where there was some type of altercation, some say verbal and even physical prior to the punch being thrown.”
The suspect threw two punches, fracturing the victim’s jaw, Huntley said. The victim’s friends brought him to the hospital, where he was later released, Huntley said.
Huntley said alcohol is believed to have played a role, but that the suspect may have been sober.
The Boulder Police identified and spoke with the suspect, but has not taken him into custody, Huntley said. The victim and suspect are likely to be CU students, but the report does not definitively say, Huntley said.
Because the case is still open, Boulder Police has not released the names yet.
