California-based company offers toys, beds and collars to customers
From the images of grass on the floor tiles to the black and white photos of dogs with their tongues wagging and ears alert hanging on the walls, this brand new pet store is meant for the average pet lover to spoil their pets. In Muttropolis, your pet is not only allowed to roam free but they are encouraged to do their own shopping.
“People love to spoil their dogs and we sell things for them like beds that last them their whole life,” said Cameron Willis, Assistant Manager at Muttropolis.
The first Muttropolis was opened in San Diego when two couples wanted something more for their pets. Muttropolis is now a chain of five stores including locations in Arizona and now Colorado. The 29th Street mall welcomed Muttropolis as one of its new stores in October, and the pet store has found it easy to adjust to life in Boulder.
“Since the mall opened, this was the only store I was really excited about. I love the toys they are the cutest and most unique,” said Rachael Griego, a senior studio arts major. “If I had my dog, I would spend all my money in here.”
Muttropolis offers dog beds ranging from $95 to $330. Muttropolis also offers a plethora of toys for your pet. Instead of offering the average squeaking toys at other pet stores, Muttropolis offers grunting toys as an alternative for the pets with more sensitive ears.
The store is divided into sections in order to help both pet and owner have a better shopping experience. There are also spa sections for bath products to give any pet that fresh smell. There are dining sections with specialty dishes and a travel and training section for collars and leashes including specialty leashes made just for specific pets like Dodsons. Dogs are not the only ones to be pampered, there is also a special cat section just for feline lovers.
Muttropolis also offers specialty tags to be engraved with any personal information just for pets. Lastly, dog and cat treats are not left out but they are made with a human quality standard.
“We have a normal bakery that makes the treats especially for pets,” Willis said .
Muttropolis also plans on offering training session, just like the one on www.mlk9.com/programs/puppy-training/ and workshops in the spring and summer months for pet owners who have questions on how to care for their pets.
“We are going to be offering Gentle Dental just for cleaning teeth, and we also offer wellness workshops,” Willis said.
Most of all Muttropolis welcomes all animals of all sizes into the store ncluding newly adopted six-week old Andre, a pitbull/lab mix, and owner Ashley Leonard, a freshman pre-communication major.
“It’s unique not like any other pet store. It’s fun, easy, and mellow, and this is just my first time here,” Leonard said.
