All the ultra-awesome CDs this week are compilations!
Party Keller vol. 2 (Compost)
This is the second installment of that wicked funk/soul compilation that came out a while ago. It’s got some of the sweetest old tracks that hip-hoppers sample all the time. It’s really just all-over dope as hell. You need to get this, go get some new digs and blast it from your super-hip caddy…right now.
New York Noise vol. 3 (Soul Jazz)
Soul Jazz is back at it with New York Noise vol. 3. The first volume was mostly dance music with no-wave thrown in here and there. The second was much noisier and featured a few killer dance tracks. This third is going deeper and deeper into the NYC underground and finding noisy, crazy side projects of some of the best NYC bands in the time. There’s some crazy dance tracks floating around, but they’re nothing like the Dance and Konk ones off of the first issue.
Kompakt Total 7 (Kompakt)
Two discs of banging, dance floor-killing techno from the German Kompakt label. These guys put out some phenomenal compilations and give you a little peek into that world of DJs and the super-ill tracks they know about and you don’t. These are all probably old as hell and have already made their runs in clubs in Europe and in NYC/LA, but probably not around here. So get this disc and get your DJ on.
