Tomorrow night, as part of La Raza Heritage Month, Noche de Baile y Musica, or Night of Dance and Music, will be held in the Glenn Miller Ballroom to celebrate Latino culture and heritage.
Music at the event will be provided by two live bands as well as other performers. DJ Musica Sagaz will perform Mexican-style music and Quinta Nota will perform Carribean-style Latin music. These bands will also be accompanied by DJ Absolute.
“It’s not often that we have two live Latino bands on this campus and I think it will really help to add some flavor to CU,” said Mario Flores, UCSU Greek affairs co-director and co-chairman for the multi-cultural Greek council. Flores is also a member of Sigma Lambda Beta and a senior international affairs major.
This event is one of four sponsored by El Concilio, the council for Latino organizations at CU.
“The purpose of the event is to showcase Latino culture and its contributions to American society,” Flores said.
Two of the four events have already taken place. There was an immigration discussion in the Norlin Quad on Sept. 5 that included a speaker from New Mexico and free food. Independencia, which included salsa dancing, was held on Sept. 19 to celebrate the independence of Latin American countries from Spain.
Vamos Al Norte, the fourth and final event of La Raza Heritage Month, is on Oct. 6. There will be a live band performance of blended Southwestern/Mexican music.
Both Vamos Al Norte and Noche de Baile y Musica are free and open to the public. Tomorrow, dance instruction and refreshments will be provided for all guests. The celebration begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 12 a.m. For more information contact Mario Flores, floresmr@gmail.com
