Playlist Project: New releases for 2014

It’s only the third week of January, but a lot of great music has already been released this year. While 2013 was characterized by massive debuts, 2014 is shaping up to be a showcase for long-established bands and artists finding the spotlight again.

Some of the bands featured on this week’s playlist — Pixies, Against Me! — have devoted fan bases cultivated over the long periods of time they’ve been making music. Meanwhile, this marks the first full-length album for ambient pop rockers Warpaint. And despite blowing up with “Cough Syrup” and “My Body,” this is only the second record for Young the Giant.

Enjoy some of the first new music of 2014 and check out a full list of upcoming releases after the playlist. We look forward to another year of sharing great music with you.

Artists with new music in 2014: Adele, Frank Ocean, Nas, Modest Mouse, Foo Fighters, Common, Belle & Sebastian, TV on the Radio, Morrissey, Lana Del Rey, Fleet Foxes, Foster the People, Wu-Tang Clan, The Hold Steady, Mastodon, Tom Petty, Tears for Fears, Rihanna, St. Vincent, U2, Jack White, Kanye West.
