CU launched a search committee this week to find a new dean of the College of Music, Provost Russell L. Moore announced Wednesday.
“As we move into a rapidly changing higher-education future, visionary leadership will be critical in order to provide the best experience for our students and to maximize scholarly and performance opportunities for our talented faculty,” Moore said in a news release from CU.
Daniel Sher, the former dean, stepped down in June after 20 years in the position. He serves CU as a faculty member and liaison to community and donors.
James Austin is serving as interim dean for the 2013-14 school year while the national search for a permanent dean is conducted, according to the CU release.
The committee is chaired by John Stevenson, dean of the graduate school. The committee aims to get candidates to Boulder for interviews this spring semester and finalize a new dean before fall 2014, Stevenson said.
Other members of the search committee include Steven Bruns, associate dean of graduate studies for the College of Music; Judith Glyde, professor of cello; Christina Jennings, assistant professor of flute; Jay Keister, associate professor of ethnomusicology; Rebecca Maloy, associate professor of musicology; Patrick Mason, professor of voice; Thomas Riis, director of the American Music Research Center; and William Stanley, associate professor of trombone.
