As entertainment editor here at the CU Independent, I want all of our readers to have an awesomely entertaining week. Here are my picks for this week, so you’ll never have to worry about being bored.
HAPPY HOUR
Ladies Night @ Absinthe
Thursday night is Ladies Night at Absinthe House. DJ Petey will be playing today’s greatest hits and buying ladies drinks from 9 p.m. until midnight. For those of the male persuasion, there are drink specials all night long.
MOVIES
“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2”
The final installment of the epic, sparkly vampire series hits theaters this Friday. Although I personally am not a fan of the franchise, midnight or opening night showings should be filled with giggly girls who can’t contain themselves. That should prove entertaining for all – fans or not.
“Anna Karenina”
The modern adaptation of the Russian classic by Leo Tolstoy has an all-star British cast, including Keira Knightley as the title character, as well as Jude Law and Matthew Macfadyen. Although the film will be in limited release this Friday, it’s worth keeping an eye out for this Oscar contender.
MUSIC
State Radio @ The Fox
The Boston-based trio will grace the Fox Theatre stage for two nights this week. You can enjoy the change-driven recent album, “Rabbit Inn Rebellion,” live Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $21 in advance for 21 and older, $23 the day of the show, plus $2 for under 21. Indie darling Sarah Jaffe opens.
THEATER
“The Giver” presented by the Denver Center Theatre Company
Lois Lowry’s Newbery Medal-winning novel is adapted for the stage in this production. Whether you’ve read the classic in school or never heard of it, this play is worth the ticket. The show runs through next Sunday at Ricketson Theatre in Denver at Speer Boulevard and Arapahoe Street.
