On Tuesday, Owl City will play a show at the Ogden Theatre. The Ogden is a good-sized venue with a balcony where patrons can look over the crowd onto the main floor and the stage.
Owl City is a one-man electronic music project that started in 2007 in Adam Young’s basement. When Young first started the project, he was suffering from insomnia and playing out of the basement of his parents’ house. His first EP, “Of June,” and album, “Maybe I’m Dreaming,” were released independently through iTunes.
Soon after, Universal Republic noticed the popularity of Young’s music and its increasing following. Owl City and Universal Republic teamed up in 2008 and started working on an album. In 2009, the song “Fireflies” from the album, “Ocean Eyes,” which was made under Universal, became a quadruple-platinum single, bringing Owl City to popularity.
Before the popularity of “Fireflies” and the huge fan base it brought, Owl City was a staple on the MySpace scene. With many likes and sales through the band’s website, the site led the first string of followers to Owl City.
The show is expected to be an exciting one, with upbeat pop tunes from the band’s latest album, “The Midsummer Station.” It is likely that songs from “Ocean Eyes” and “Maybe I’m Dreaming” will appear, tying in the tunes from the past with the new tunes he is bringing forth. Currently, Owl City has teamed up with Carly Rae Jepsen in the popular song, “Good Time,” which many may have heard on the radio or at parties, usually accompanied by a bunch of dancing.
With the catchy tunes that Owl City has produced in the past five years, an interesting mix will be sure to occur Tuesday night in Denver. Young’s ability to connect with his fans, in a way that fans walk away feeling like they know him, will bring an interesting vibe to the Ogden. It is sure to be exciting music that anyone can easily sing along and dance to.
Tickets may be purchased through the Ogden Theatre’s website. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
