President Obama to speak in Coors Event Center

The White House has released a statement with details regarding President Obama’s upcoming visit to the CU campus.

The president will speak in the Coors Event Center on Tuesday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m.. It is a free and open to all students and the public. Entry to the event will be between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and all attending will need a valid ID and ticket to enter.

Tickets will be available on Sunday. For students, tickets will be distributed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m for free in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at the UMC and students will need a valid student ID. For faculty and staff, tickets will be distributed from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Aspen Rooms at the UMC, and general public tickets will become available on Monday at noon at the Coors Events Center. All tickets are available on a first come first serve basis and can not be re-sold.

According to the release, the speech will focus on Obama’s efforts to combat increasing interest rates on student loans.

“More than 7.4 million students with federal student loans will see their interest rates double on July 1 unless Congress steps in to keep them low,” the statement said. “For each year Congress allows the rate to double, the average student with these loans racks up an additional $1000 in debt.”

The president will “speak with students about the critical need for Congress to act.” His brief stop in Boulder comes immediately after a trip to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he will be leaving for the University of Iowa the next day.
