The Halloween Run, an annual event at both The Fox and Boulder Theater, features a variety of bands, whose genres range from rock to bluegrass, and whose origins range from Boulder to Long Beach, Calif.
The event kicks off on Thursday, Oct. 27 with a performance by Denver-based Yamn at The Fox and with Mason Jennings headlining at the Boulder Theater.
The Halloween Run features several highlights throughout the weekend. Yamn will be playing music from the movie Almost Famous. At the Boulder Theater, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe will perform the Rolling Stones album Sticky Fingers. In addition, The Motet will be paying tribute to The Grateful Dead by putting their own spin on the classic songs.
Both venues will be decorated for Halloween, and there will be costume contests held in addition to the musical performances. The bands in attendance will embrace the Halloween spirit in their performances as well.
“DeVotchKa does a theme every year — this year, it’s Zombies v. Vampires at the Boulder Theater,” said Emily Kessler, marketing assistant for Boulder Theater and The Fox. ”Greensky [Bluegrass] is doing an 80s theme at The Fox.”
The Fox’s full line-up this year is Yamn and The Magic Beans on Thursday, Oct. 27; Cold War Kids on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29; Eminence Ensemble on Sunday, Oct. 30; and Greensky Bluegrass on Halloween, Oct. 31.
Some of the bands, such as DeVotchKa and The Motet, have played the Halloween Run in previous years, but other bands are new to the event.
“We book the acts we think will be the most fun and well suited for a great Halloween party weekend,” Kessler said.
The shows on Halloween weekend draw a large crowd, so get your tickets as soon as possible.
“All of the shows will be close to selling out–or sold out–so we definitely see a jump in attendance,” Kessler said.
Prices for the shows range from $8 to $42.
