The Grammy Awards are a time to celebrate the best talent in music. This year Taylor Swift and Beyonce Knowles took home a combined 10 awards, becoming this year’s big winners.
Taylor Swift once again appeared shocked to have won four Grammy Awards, but no one else seemed surprised. She has dominated award shows in the past few months for her album, “Fearless.”
Swift accepted the award for Album of the Year and Best Country Album, among the four. She was also one of the best-dressed winners, sporting a dark-blue, sparkly dress.
Knowles is no newcomer to the Grammy Awards. She picked up six awards out of her 10 nominations. Among others, she won Song of the Year for “Single Ladies” and Best Female Performance for “Halo.”
As expected, there was a tribute to Michael Jackson. Carrie Underwood, Smokey Robinson, Jennifer Hudson and Celine Dion performed “Earth Song.” In a touching speech, Jackson’s children accepted his award for him.
Lady Gaga dressed wild and performed by herself and with Elton John. Other performances included Swift and Stevie Nicks, Knowles, Pink, Black Eyed Peas, Jamie Foxx, Bon Jovi and Green Day. The last performance was by Lil Wayne, Travis Barker, Drake and Eminem in “Forever,” a song which received a standing ovation.
The Best New Artist Award went to the Zac Brown Band, a country band from Georgia, made known from their smash-hits, “Chicken Fried,” “Whatever It Is” and “Highway 20 Ride.”
Stephen Colbert also won Best Comedy Album for “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All.”
Another winner included Jason Mraz for Best Pop Vocal Performance in “Make It Mine.”
