Fans of underground electronic music fans have a treat coming their way.
DJ Rootz, otherwise known as Tim Bowers, will be playing at the Fox Theatre on Monday, accompanied by DJ’s Break Science and Big Gigantic. Although all the artists produce an atmosphere of high energy, electronic music, their sounds differ widely from one another.
Main act DJ Rootz’s music is mellow mixture of electronica and hip-hop not easily comparable to any similar musicians. Rootz’s music breaks the common stereotype of head-pounding, repetitive mainstream electronica in favor of a more subtle sound. His music combines reggae and alternative sounds and draws from classic as well as contemporary influences to create a sound that appeals to all ears.
Opening act Break Science has a sound similar to that of Rootz, with a greater focus on alternative and heavy sounds. The creative mind behind Break Science, Adam Deitch, is an established drummer who uses his talent to create Break Science’s unique sound.
DJs Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken, also known as Big Gigantic, will accompany DJ Rootz and Break Science. Big Gigantic’s has a high-energy sound that uses an array of electronic sounds without sounding too overwhelming and over the top. Big Gigantic is the electronica music genre equivalent of a jam band, making songs that can keep listeners hooked for extended periods of time without getting dull.
Those looking to see some local and diverse DJ’s, head to the Fox Theatre on 1135 13th Street Monday night. The show starts at 9 p.m., and doors open at 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $13.
